Adeoti Azeez Afeez

Azeez Afeez Adeoti was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. A native of Oyo state, Adeoti is a sgraffito ceramicist who draws on clay made by scratching through a clay coated surface with engobe to reveal a contrasting colour underneath, resulting in hatched style drawings.

He obtained his ordinary national diploma (OND) in general from the prestigious Yaba College of technology in 2017, then majored in ceramics for his higher national diploma (HND), where he graduated in 2019 as the overall best-graduating student. He is mostly inspired by facial expressions and the messages they transmit.

Adeoti uses the sgraffito style of drawing on tiles, different forms, and surfaces as a medium of expressing his perspective on his immediate environment. He participated in exhibitions like ‘The convergence exhibition of the Oyo state council for art and culture in 2019’, the ‘Beyond the Border’, the first online international ceramic art exhibition in 2020, and ‘Beyond limit ceramics exhibition 2022’.
