Al Baseer Holly (ABH)

Al-baseer Holly’s dynamic painting practice encomasses both vigorous, expressionistic spray-painted works and hard-edged Cubist-inspired portraits. Many of his works feature tongue-in-cheek riffs on pop culture characters and iconography. On one canvas , Holly contrasts Superman’s chiseled physique with geometric planes of color that dissolve into free-flowing gestural marks. Other works involve collaged elements; on Speaker of the House (2021), cutout pieces of detailed portraiture are stitched onto an existing silhouetted canvas. Holly previously worked as a recording artist and has exhibited extensively in Los Angeles and further afield.
