Alberto Corazón
Spanish, 1942–2021
Corazón is known for having been one of the great renovators of design in our country, but he was also a painter and sculptor. In this facet, the most pleasurable and freeing for him, the Marlborough Gallery accompanied him with great pride and affection for more than 20 years.
The history of design in Spain is inseparable from the name of Alberto Corazón. He was the creator of logos that form part of our visual culture, such as those of Renfe, ONCE, Paradores and the Autonomous University. In the early 1970s he promoted the first manifestations of "conceptual art" in our country through the Redor Gallery. During those years he created Alberto Corazón Editor, which introduced the texts of the historical avant-garde and structuralist currents into the Spanish market.
Corazón was awarded the National Design Prize and was appointed as an academic of the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts. His most prominent exhibitions include: Despojarse, Galería Marlborough, Madrid (2017) El grafito ama el papel, Galería Marlborough, Madrid (2016); La energía del pensamiento gráfico, Fundación Telefónica, Madrid (2015); Alberto Corazón, IVAM, Centro Julio González, Valencia (2008); Inscripción de la memoria (Retrospective exhibition of sculpture and painting), Museum of Modern Art, Aman, Jordan and National Museum of Modern Art, Tehran, Iran (2004); Spagna avanguardia artística e realtá sociale 1936-1976, Venice Biennale, Italy (1976). His sculptural work is present in urban spaces in the main Spanish cities. They have works, as part of their permanent collection, in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the IVAM, the Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Madrid and the Museo de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, among others.
