Alberto Ferreira has amassed a variegated body of work over the course of his long and illustrious career as a photographer. For over 30 years, Ferreira worked in journalistic and documentary photography, most actively in the 1950s and ’60s. Most of his work documents historically significant moments in Brazilian history on a global and a local scale. He famously made one of the most complete image archives of the construction and inauguration of the city of Brasilia. Ferreira is also beloved as one of the most important sports photographers in Brazil. Though his subjects vary widely, Ferreira has a distinctive eye for form and composition: he often indirectly highlights or describes an event by photographing the spectating crowd’s posture and its shadow.
