Biography

Allen Wynn, a largely self-taught figural sculptor, selects his subjects from his own memories and experiences growing up on a farm in rural Ohio. “Strong women have been prominent in my life,” Wynn writes, “the strength and earthiness of them have influenced the development of my technique and art process.” A majority of his works feature female figures engaged in quotidian activities, such as chores or farm work, rendered in simplified shapes and poses—such as a lifted hand or an inclined head. Wynn makes each of his works first by employing a steel or wooden framework, onto which he molds a fiberglass mixture; then by using different types of varnishes and paint for various patina effects.
