Alona Harpaz

Alona Harpaz was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, in 1971 and currently lives and works in Berlin. She paints using acrylic, aerosol and industrial paints on canvas, mixing high intensity and fluorescent colors. Working between figuration and abstraction, Harpz's subject matter is very personal and usually centers on a single female figure. Splashes of colorful make-up, daubed on faces, give her work with a "glam" aesthetic, while the naturalistic elements hint at mischief, restraint, and spiritual symbolism. She often incorporates floral motifs, creating compositions that allude to the stylistic characteristics of European Art Nouveau, as well as the geometric patterns of Asian mandalas.
