Amano Yoshitaka

Japanese, born 1952

Yoshitaka Amano incorporates a breadth of influences into his illustrative mixed-media paintings. Much like Takashi Murakami, Amano’s work fuses the fine arts with pop culture and design, also integrating European Art Nouveau style and traditional Japanese brushwork. His fantasy scenes are detailed and delicate illustrations of imaginative narratives, often including villains, armored heroes, and monsters. Their energetic poses and saturated colors are akin to the comic book aesthetic of manga and anime, revealing the lingering influence of his early work as an animator.
