Ana Maria Pacheco
Brazilian, b. 1943
Ana Maria Pacheco was born in Brazil. Following degrees in both Art and Music she taught and lectured for several years before leaving for England in 1973 on a British Council Scholarship to the Slade School of Fine Art. Since 1973 she has lived and worked in England. Painting, drawing and printmaking are integral to Pacheco’s working practice and much of what becomes sculpture is first explored through prints and drawings. She describes this process of discovery as ‘circumnavigation’ – a journey of moving freely between one medium and another in order to explore various possibilities. Pacheco is currently working on a major new multi-figure sculptural group for exhibition at the Galway International Arts Festival, Ireland in 2020.
