Andrea Juan
Argentine, born 1964

Andrea Juan seeks to engage audiences both in the ideas she is conveying and in the immersive viewing environments she creates. Working in photography, video, printmaking, performance, and installation, she explores such wide-ranging subjects as the body, development of the land, and global warming. One of her enduring inspirations is Antarctica, which she has been visiting since 2004. She often sets up brightly colored lengths of fabric and temporary sculptures within its icy landscape, photographing and filming them amid their surroundings. More than celebrating the continent’s beauty, she intends such works to draw attention to global warming. In Juan’s words: “When one reads statistics…they provide more exact and truthful information, but also a colder approach. With images…the work transcends reason, enters the soul, and that’s where change happens.”
