Andrew Masullo
American, b. 1957
For nearly four decades Andrew Masullo has developed a unique, hard-won body of work, resulting in paintings that are both straightforward and complex in their interplays of color and composition. Using unmixed oil paint straight from the tube, Masullo’s work is intuitive and shuns preconceived notions or outside references. His journey with each painting can last months or even years. In review of his most recent show at Zevitas Marcus in 2016, LA Times critic David Pagel said, “as a painter, Masullo is the most playful shape-maker of his generation.” His paintings have recently found homes in the permanent collections of The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and New York's Whitney Museum of American Art, where he was included in its 2012 Biennial Exhibition.
