Annabelle Delaigue
French, born 1974

Creating sculptures that function as expressions of emotion, truth, and an individual voice, Annabelle Delaigue creates colored bronze, resin, and chrome sculptures of women, mannequin-esque in appearance, yet still imbued with personality and energy. While it was a bust of her son, Hugo, that first caught the attention of critics, collectors, and fellow sculptors, Delaigue favors female figures as subjects. Delaigue is entirely self-taught and first worked with clay before turning to bronze, which she imbues with a distinctive fluidity in spite of its rigid nature. Previously favoring scenes from everyday life as a means of conveying emotion and sensitivity, Delaigue has recently begun to explore more escapist themes, as seen in Guardians of the Wind and Metamorphosis of the Angel.
