Anthony Hunter
British, b. 1987
Anthony Hunter is known for his dazzling abstract paintings composed of vivid colors and prominent gestural strokes. Hunter’s color field works also feature blobs, splatters, and drips of paint, creating an illusion of movement across the surface of the canvas. His work It Is What It Is At Painting (2018) features a bold background of red on the top half of the frame, and a deep violet hue on the bottom. The work, accented with splashes of white paint and other colorful marks and etches, exemplifies the artist’s spontaneous process which he describes as an exciting and enjoyable experience. After studying contemporary art at Leeds Metropolitan University and graduating in 2009, Hunter began working as a fabricator and art technician for prominent artist Damien Hirst. Hunter’s work has participated in exhibitions and fairs in New York and Miami.
