Antonio Ballester Moreno
Spanish, b. 1977
Antonio Ballester Moreno is celebrated for his works featuring bright symbols and patterns. Ballester Moreno employs primary colors on unprocessed jute canvases, a rough fibrous material. His paintings explore line, form, and color through his use of repetitive motifs. Though deeply rooted in abstraction, his paintings often utilize a simplistic visual vocabulary to describe natural forms, phenomena, and cycles, as in Lluvia (2017) and Untitled (2019). Sin título (planta fondo blanco) (2020) depicts a single long-stalked plant in a pastel pink hue shown against a crisp light background. Ballester Moreno’s captivating works are held in the collections of institutions including the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (MUSAC). He has also exhibited internationally, including at the Museo de Arte de Zapopan in Mexico.
