Apolonia Sokol

Apolonia Sokol creates figurative paintings that delve into themes of gendered representation and body politics, frequently depicting her own friends, lovers, and collaborators. Her works, characterized by flat, vibrant colors, often challenge conventional representations of identity, employing natural pigments for a distinctive effect. The artist, who is of Polish and Danish descent, graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2015. Sokol’s first solo museum exhibition was held in 2023 at the Arken Museum in Ishøj, Denmark. She has shown her work at galleries in Copenhagen, Brussels, Paris, Istanbul, Mexico City, Rome, and Los Angeles. Sokol is also the subject of the 2022 documentary Apolonia, Apolonia, which captures 13 years of her life and career journey.
