Ariel Schlesinger & Jonathan Monk
Israeli and English, 1980 and 1969

Sparked by a discussion about the concept of equilibrium and their failure to find perfect balance, Jonathan Monk and Ariel Schlesinger decided to collaborate and turn their conversation into art. The result is a witty series of precariously balanced sculptural works entitled “Balanced Acts” (2010). By assembling old pieces of household and industrial furniture, common objects, and photographs into imaginative forms, the artists experiment with various methods of bringing materials into balance with each other, presenting a poetic visual reflection of their quest for equilibrium.
