Self-taught Artemio is part of the generation of artists who arose in Mexico City in the 1990s. His work has been featured in solo exhibitions in museums, independent art spaces and galleries the world over, such as: MUCA-Campus, Mexico City; Y Gallery, New York; El Centro de las Artes, Monterrey; LAXART, Los Angeles; Queen’s Nails Annex, San Francisco; Galería de La Raza, San Francisco; Revólver, Lima; La Central, Bogotá; The Hayward Gallery, London; Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros, Mexico City; Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil and La Panadería in Mexico City.
As curator, he has presented his projects around the world in countries such as Peru, USA, Mexico, Bolivia and Spain, among others. He received the prestigious Jóvenes Creadores (Young Creators) scholarship from FONCA (Mexico’s National Fund for Culture and the Arts) in 2001 and in 2007. In 2014 he released his first feature film, “Me quedo contigo” (I stay with you), which was shown in over 40 national and international film festivals, including International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), Sitges Film Festival, Edinburgh International Film Festival, Taipei Film Festival and FICUNAM. It also won him the Kukulkán prize for best film in the Riviera Maya festival.
His work is part of the following public collections: The World Bank in Washington DC; The Whitney Museum Of American Art in New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art in Castilla and León in León, Spain; the Basque Centre-Museum of Contemporary Art in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain; Museo de Arte Carril- lo Gil in Mexico City; COPPEL Collection in Culiacán, Mexico; and the Museum of Art Acarigua-Araure in Venezuela. His art can also be found in private collections in the USA and in Latin America.
