Arthur Becker is an artist whose work explores cultural materialism and our relationship with value, money, and attachment. After earning a degree in ceramics and photography from Bennington College in 1972, Becker lived in Vermont, where he built a construction company that dismantled and reconstructed 18th-century houses. This hands-on study of architectural details sparked his ongoing fascination with the origin and creation of everyday objects. Drawing inspiration from artists like John Chamberlain and the traditions of Pop Art, Becker's recent work examines the objects we collect and the deeper meanings attached to them, questioning our values and the broader implications of material wealth and security.
