A.W.N. Pugin, in full Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1812, London—1852, London), was an English architect, designer, ceramist, author, theorist, and leading figure in the English Roman Catholic and Gothic revivals. He was the first architect/designer to link a specific style to morals, godliness, and social values. His tenet of truth to materials was the crux of the Arts and Crafts movement. He is best remembered for working in his last years with Sir Charles Barry on the interior of the new Palace of Westminster.
