Benedikt Muxel
Austrian, b. 1994
Benedikt Muxel, born in 1994, began his artistic journey with traditional garment making and design training at Schloss Hetzendorf in Vienna. He later studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, focusing on sculptural work and installations within architectural realms, which eventually led him to concentrate on conceptual painting. Muxel's artistic practice is characterised by his use of monochromatic grids and recurring shapes, blending elements of abstract expressionism and minimalism.
The artist's exploration of spatial relationships and structure is evident in his artwork, which often features dynamic recurring shapes that describe and provoke exploration of the spaces in-between canvas and gallery. Muxel's work challenges viewers' assumptions about the boundaries of contemporary painting, encouraging them to think beyond the centre of the artwork and become immersed in the holistic effect.
