Blanca Muñoz
Spanish, b. 1963
The sculpture of Blanca Muñoz (Madrid, 1963) seizes every expressive opportunity from stainless steel, upon which she presses a warm effect, as well as light and kinetic. As the visitor moves around her pieces, the perforated plate provides an moaré effect, that gives the feeling of mobility. From her monumental works we shall highlight the piece “Géminis” at Norman Tower in Madrid (2009) or “Panta Rei” in Málaga (2008). Some of her most important solo exhibitions have been: Vaivén at the Galería Marlborough, Madrid (2018); Tornasol at Galería Marlboroug, Madrid (2015); Circunnavegación 1990-2013, Sala Alcalá 31, Madrid (2013); De l’acier à l’or, Minimasterpièce Gallery, Paris (2013); Superficial, Galería Marlborough, Madrid (2012); Joyas de Blanca Muñoz, Joyería Grassy, Madrid (2010); Blue Dance, Marlborough Chelsea Gallery, New York, USA. (2009); El universo transparente, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Espacio Uno, Madrid (2004); Skulpturen Baukunst Galerie, Cologne, Germany (2001). Her work can be found within numerous collections, such as La Academia Española de Historia, Arqueología y Bellas Artes en Roma; Banco de España in Madrid; Biblioteca Nacional, Madrid; Würth Collection, Germany; La Quinta Colorada, México D.F.; Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid; Palacio de la Zarzuela, Madrid and Fundación Coca-Cola. In 2019 she was appointed number academic to the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, becoming the sixth woman that has received this kind of distinction throughout the history of the institution.
