Bonnie Seeman creates ceramics resembling muscles, human organs, and plants, subverting the medium’s traditional use for functional household objects. “The work […] is based on utilitarian ceramics,” she says. “Many of my influences come directly from my environment.” Seeman’s predilection for gorily biomorphic forms stems both from a desire to explore the natural world through the everyday, and from close personal experiences of illness and loss, which “affected the way in which [she thinks] about life, death, and the struggle for survival,” she has said.
