Brian Lacey
Brian Lacey (b. 1988) is an artist and muralist born in Pontiac, Michigan and currently lives and works in Detroit, Michigan. He has his Bachelor of Fine Art in Illustration from College for Creative Studies.
His work explores classical geometry through the lens of reclamation, and utilizes the cyclical nature of growth as a vehicle to illuminate relationships between identity and environment.
Drawing inspiration from materials, methods, and symbolism that his memories, interplay of identity and environment, he explores juxtapositions of paint, street posters, and repurposed material, resulting in a diverse practice ranging from hard-edged geometry, figurative and realistic portrayals, to fully abstract, highly-textural, and expressive works.
Within all facets of his practice, the commonality of appropriation and reuse is intended as transformation to strengthen dimensionality through documentation combined with history creating the metamorphism from one state to another to define the resilience and adaptability of human identity within the context of individual and societal change.
