Brian Richard Hart
American, b. 1983
Inspired by the traditions of history painting and pop art, Brian Hart paints bright, densely layered paintings composed of recognizable elements that eventually border on abstraction. Themes in the paintings are often derived from stories and myths enjoyed as a child and instead of a straightforward approach, these stories are reinterpreted using pictures appropriated from a wide range of sources. Images taken from advertising, cartoons and movies are given equal weight with images drawn from the works of the old masters. The aesthetics of Brian's work owes to his focus on silk-screening while receiving his BFA from Rhode Island School of Design. He has exhibited his paintings extensively around the U.S. and created permanent installations combining his paintings, lighting, sound and sculptural elements at Meow Wolf's "House of Eternal Return" in Santa Fe, NM and "Omega Mart" in Las Vegas, NV.
