Brittsense
U.S. Citizen, b. 1989
Brittsense is a documentarian from Deep East Oakland, California, based wherever her people are. For generations, melanated people have been misrepresented in mainstream media because they have not been the people telling/owning their narratives. As a result, Brittsense founded 222forgottencities.
In 222forgottencities, Brittsense travels around the world to experience narratives within the melanated community. She documents the beauty of these communities that mainstream media considers “dangerous“ and where they say only struggle exists. Brittsense documents to shatter false narratives and stereotypes as well as connect with her people. It’s her way of planting seeds towards the upliftment, nourishment and inner power of melanated people.
222Media LLC, Brittsense’s media company, has stretched her work beyond fine arts and into various creative areas. With partnerships across industries like fashion, literature, nutrition, and museums, her message is received with great impact. Brittsense has developed a heightened sense of self-sustainment through her vast experience as a fine artist and entrepreneur. Still, she is often giving back to her community by helping upcoming artists maintain solid business acumen and move away from becoming starving artists.
Brittsense continuously cultivates the psychological healing process of melanated people because she feels the first step towards healing is being able to see yourself from a lens of unconditional love rather than from trauma/struggle. Whether through exhibitions at the Oakland Museum or by designing billboard advertisements that motivate you to be healthier, Brittsense’s work is a reflection of her mission of healing and growth.
