Bryce Zackery is an American visual artist currently living and working in New York. A native of Rochester, Minnesota, Zackery is associated with Kids of Survival, an artists’ group led—in a long-running teacher-student collaborative arts program—by the artist and educator Tim Rollins. The landmark partnership between Rollins and K.O.S. began as an after-school program in a South Bronx community center in 1984 and now operates out of a studio in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood. In a process they call “jammin’,” one student reads aloud from primary texts, to which others respond by drawing, painting, or as otherwise moved. The group’s finished artworks utilize the documents—book pages, sheet music—as canvases.
