Burhan Doğançay was born in 1929 in Istanbul. He is an unconventional artist who had an incredible artistic development in America, Europe, and Turkey. Doğançay obtained artistic training from his father and his painters friends, while in 1950 he received a Law Degree from the University of Ankara. Painting remained his most enjoyable pastime especially because after graduating he moved to Paris where he studied Economics and obtained a PhD. The effervescent Parisian art scene of the 1950s led Doğançay to spend his time in the company of local artists and attended art classes at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. Charmed by this bohemian milieu, he painted regularly and took part in several group shows. In 1962 his work brought him to New York. —Courtesy of Fine Art Auctions Miami
