Macedo lingers over the colors and patterns of the textiles she paints, rendering a dress, a jacket, or a pillow in intricate detail, in contrast to her spare treatment of the figures themselves. Her figures seem pensive, preternaturally self-possessed, and isolated from each other and their surroundings—reflecting a moody vision of the experience of childhood.
