Cannon Bernáldez
Mexican, b. 1974
Born in Mexico City in 1974, Cannon Bernaldez has a degree in journalism from the Carlos Septién García School, as well as courses and workshops in photography and film criticism. Her work has been presented in galleries and cultural centers of Mexico and abroad such as United States, Russia, Peru and France.
Engaged with classic photography techniques, from Ambrotype to Gelatin Silver prints, Cannon creates her own fantastic world where she documents her most intimate feelings and demons through strange circumstances. Due to the strength of her proposal, in which the feminine and the fragility of the human condition are the main ideas, she has been awarded different recognitions: The 12 Photography Biennial in 2006, The FONCA (National Fund for Culture and Arts) Fellowship in two editions, the Omnilife Cultural Foundation Award (2001), 1st National Biennial of Visual Arts, Mérida (2002). She was a member of the National System of Creators 2011-2014 and currently directs a photo workshop Photo Linterna Mágica in Mexico City.
Among her individual exhibitions stand out: Galería de la Alianza Francesa, San Angel, Mexico (2003); Images du Pole, Orleans, France (2004); Nacho López, Pachuca's Photo Library (2005). Her photographs are part of the collection of the Fine Arts Museum, Houston, Texas and the Arts Center, University of Lehigh in Pennsylvania in the U.S. the Centro de la Image, Carrillo Gil Art Museum, Chopo University Museum and the Televisa Cultural Foundation in Mexico.
