Carlos Montes de Oca is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice includes painting, drawing, photography, installation, mixed-media sculpture, and printmaking. Montes de Oca, who has an academic background in screenprinting and metal-plate engraving, has a shifting style that alters with mediums. His drawings and paintings frequently feature anthropomorphic figures, animals, masks, and mannequins as motifs. In one of his best known sense-disorienting installations, ZEN Sentido (2007), Montes de Oca photographed a herd of goats in the exhibition’s gallery space and then displayed the works in the same space. His oeuvre explores a thematic interest in the psychological effects of memory and the human preoccupation with measurement.
