Caroline Lambard
British, b. 1958
Caroline Lambard’s multi-disciplinary practice connects the process of making with the experiential qualities of living in three dimensions. The way in which a form develops is integral to the final work, as are the sensed qualities it conveys such as depth, distance or the effects of movement. The forms continually flow between two and three dimensions, finding different viewpoints through drawing, installation, sculpture and collage. Within the work she can direct attention so that highlighted parts catch the eye and define new forms, while the supporting structure remains visible underneath.
With a background in industrial design, Caroline Lambard blurs the lines between art, place making and functionality. Her work has a precision which is applied in an improvised, spontaneous manner and the resulting mix of order, disruption and response often produces forms and patterns reminiscent of those found in the natural world. Her practice is complex and evades straightforward explanation, bringing together the structural and the sensory, immersing the viewer in works which develop over time or show how a changing viewpoint apparently shape-shifts a form, and focusing into the details of everyday life.
