Carter Shocket

Carter Shocket is a trans and queer interdisciplinary artist from North Carolina living and working in Brooklyn, New York. His work includes woven sculpture, installation, tapestry, and other process-based textile art.

From the artist:
My work explores queer and trans theory and expresses my findings in woven sculpture, tapestry, and installation. I'm interested in how transness breaks what we think is fixed, and what forms in the openings of those breaks. I suggest that these breaks give space to form moments of the trans supernatural- something beyond our current reality, like the collapse of time, a re-understanding of ghosts, or a society re-structured around communal care.

Through finding, forming, and establishing these queer concepts into physical art, I make real our unwritten realities, connecting myself to my community, and my community to our history and future."
