Cassandra C. Jones pulls elements from found digital images to create collages, wallpaper, and video loops that she calls “snap-motion re-animations.” Obsessively sifting through online archives of images and accumulating them as her raw materials, Jones arranges series of photographs, or elements within them, to form patterns and cohesive line drawings. In Lightning Drawing I (2009), she meticulously organized photographs of stormy skies, using fragments of lightning strikes to form a drawing-animation of a rabbit in motion. Jones’s work brings an implicit sense of order to the chaos of online digital imagery, and reflects her continued engagement with Eadweard Muybridge, who pioneered the photographic study of motion.
