Cathy McClure
American, born 1965
Represented by industry leading galleries.

Sculptor and video artist Cathy McClure is known for creating intricate mechanical works that resemble old-fashioned children’s toys, at once humorous and uncanny. McClure often uses plastic or silver, the materials each bringing their own associative value to the finished pieces; the plastic references the disposable and fragile, as if an actual toy that a child might easily lose or break, while the silver works seem strangely precious, as in Rooster (2006). McClure also produces videos in which she cuts and destroys stuffed animals with a scissor, a violent and deeply metaphorical act relating to lost youth.
