Influenced by ideas of time and simultaneity in music, Chambliss Giobbi—who was once a classical music composer—takes thousands of photographs of his subject, before tearing the prints up into innumerable fragments, then gluing them layer upon layer into a collage on aluminum panel. These multiform images aim to represent more incisive psychological insight than photography alone is capable of, the single individual or experience transformed into a montage of time and space, collapsed into a single object. Giobbi also creates three-dimensional works and assemblage.
