Chechu Álava

Chechu Alava was born in Asturias (Spain) in 1973. Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca, in 1995 won the Erasmus scholarship to study at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Since 2001 she lives in Paris. Her personal way of work is focused on the need of the eternal representation of what surrounds us and the search for identity through painting. This trail begins in her subconscious, and it is completed visiting museums, the reinterpretation of genres such as portrait or landscape, literature or cinema.
In 2014 her work was selected by an international panel to be included in the book « 100 painters of tomorrow », published by Thames and Hudson.
Her paintings are in private and public collections in Spain, Colombia, Portugal, Mexico, Germany, USA, South Africa and France.
