Chika Osaka
Japanese, b. 1984
Chika Osaka was born in 1984 in Tokyo and received M.A. from Tokyo University of the Arts
in 2011. She won the prize of Jury Tateyama in the exhibition of the Japan Print Association in
2010 and in Shell Art Award in 2011. In 2014, Osaka received an honorable mention from
the Vision of Contemporary Art and joined the group exhibition at Ichihara Lakeside
Museum. She joined in Kyoto Print Triennale in 2016. She has had solo exhibitions at
GALLERY MoMo since 2011, MICHEKO GALLERY (Germany) in 2015, Museum Franz
Gertsch (Swaziland) in 2019, and ELSA GALLERY (Taiwan) in 2021.
Since her early career, she created both lithographs and paintings with the motifs of dramalike
lines she wrote. Recently, she has set the stage themes such as people, date, and place,
and showed her works and original shorts stories as a large-scale installation in her solo
exhibitions. Her texts and works are described the various situation of women and received
a lot of sympathy from those who are her generation.
