Chris Leidy
The world-renowned underwater photographer Chris Leidy is praised for his captivating photographs of austere landscapes, extraordinary natural phenomena, and submarine animals and vegetation. Leidy often shoots in remote environments, under extreme conditions, traveling to unspoiled locations in Papua New Guinea, Fiji, and the Arctic. The artist goes on deep-sea dives, documenting the life and geography that lies beneath the water’s surface. Clarity (2010–2020) shows a view of crystalline waters taken from a sandy ocean floor, depicting a large school of silver fish swimming through vast open waters; the fish recede into the photograph’s deep-blue horizon line. Leidy is the great-, great-grandson of the newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer, founder of the Pulitzer Prize, and the grandson of notable fashion designer Lilly Pulitzer Rousseau. His photographs have received international acclaim and are featured in prominent publications including The Wall Street Journal, Architectural Digest, Condé Nast Traveler, and Forbes.
