Christien Meindertsma
Dutch, b. 1980
Christien Meindertsma (b. 1980, Utrecht) thoroughly explores the life of products and raw materials in her work. Since graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2003, Meindertsma has sought to explore the potential of raw materials and reveal processes that have become increasingly obsolete through industrialization and globalization. Encouraging a deeper understanding of materials and processes, careful investigation and documentation, themes of local production and underexplored resources characterize her practice. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Victoria & Albert museum in London, Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Textiel Museum in Tilburg, the Netherlands, and the Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rein. She lives and works in Asperen, The Netherlands.
