Christina Hejtmanek marries her cinematic aesthetic and background in painting to produce photographs that capture semi-abstract fragments of the natural world—a blurred landscape, an amorphous cloud—that simultaneously suggest a place and an abstract experience. Shooting through glass, in moving vehicles, in inclement weather, or flooding the aperture with light, she creates abstractions that the viewer associates with memories and emotion. The American road trip is an essential part of Hejtmanek’s practice, both literally and as an exploration of ideas of impermanence and flux.
