Dan McCaw
American, b. 1942
Dan McCaw is a contemporary American painter known for his expressive depictions of figures, interiors, landscapes, and still lifes, blending soft color harmonies with abstract elements to create a distinct and evolving visual language. His work balances strong compositional design with an ongoing spirit of experimentation and inquiry, resulting in paintings that are both grounded and exploratory.
McCaw began his formal training at the San Francisco Academy of Art University, later studying at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and the Bongart School of Art in Santa Monica. Though rooted in classical traditions, his practice has developed into a more abstract and intuitive mode, emphasizing emotion and atmosphere over strict representation. Based in Torrance, California, McCaw continues to explore the expressive potential of painting, contributing a contemplative and richly textured voice to contemporary American art.
