Daniel Litvinov
Ukrainian, b. 1982
A special style, unique to anyone, hewn out over years of creativity. The style of conveying well-known historical or biblical events and personalities, from the angle of the artist’s own special view. Crazy phantasmagoria and plots with a huge history and subtext distinguish the works of this Ukrainian artist from almost everything that is in the world of fine art. In the paintings, avant-garde elements of the characters and forms and colors in the Art Nouveau style coexist at the same time, and all this is seasoned with surreal elements, an intricacy of plots in the first, second and third plans of the paintings. Recent works are subject to some surreal depiction of the reality they see. The sensuality of youth is intertwined with complex associative transformations of human figures. Litvinov’s paintings can be looked at not only for hours, but also for years, each time finding more and more new meaning and subtext. It would not be an exaggeration to call Daniil Litvinov the creator and bearer of a new style in Ukraine, the style of surrealist modernism.
