Daniela Acosta Parsons
Colombian, b. 1993
Art creates knowledge, and creating is a path toward understanding the unspeakable. Daniela constructs a world in which the subject lives through light, atmosphere, and the strangeness of images. She aims for the observer to recall emotions or experiences that lead to conversations about topics that are usually difficult to address: illness, pain, death, and our understanding and actions in response to these situations. She questions the production and dissemination of knowledge, what is considered legitimate versus what is overlooked; the dialogue and repair of connections with others after experiencing traumatic events.
On a conceptual level, three authors guide her: Veena Das with her concept of poisoned knowledge, Sandra Harding with the theory of situated knowledge, and Hannah Arendt with her proposal of political plurality.
When words run out, Art arrives and speaks with its soft yet persistent voice. Ultimately, what I seek is genuine communication. I want to be heard and also to listen, to connect with others, and not to feel alone in the world. I know I am not the only one.
Daniela Acosta Parsons is a Visual Artist (2016), Historian (2018), and Master of Fine Arts, Electronic Arts, and Time-Based Media (2020) from the Universidad de los Andes. She was awarded scholarships during her undergraduate and postgraduate studies and graduated with honors.
