Dave Anderson

Working in black-and-white and color, photography and film, Dave Anderson gets to the heart of his subjects in his quietly penetrating images. He took his first photograph at the age of 32 and never looked back. Since then, he has worked on his own projects and on assignments that take him around the world and across America. He has photographed New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina; the residents of the racially fraught, rural town of Vidor, Texas; and urban and rural landscapes bearing traces of change. Though his subject matter ranges widely, Anderson is particularly interested in people. Citing such master documentarians as Diane Arbus, Dorothea Lange, and Russell Lee as influences, he explains: “I’m fascinated by other people’s lives. […] I love that whole concoction that creates a person—the place, the outlook, the experience, the way they approach life.”
