Educated at the Royal College of Art, silversmith David Clarke subverts his chosen medium in playful, often humorous, ways. His domestic objects, which sometimes take on anthropomorphic features, often look, when grouped together, like sets of surreal characters. Clarke frequently uses salt and lead to “burn” his surfaces, turning shiny silver into patches of lacey corrosion. “The conservativeness of the discipline really pushes me to become more creative,” Clarke explains. “It is essential to keep this discipline alive and forward thinking.”
