Biography

David Jablonowski says that his artistic practice changed when he started to think of the history of sculpture in the context of the history media in general, because he believed “sculpture was often used as a device for some kind of communication.” His work incorporates machines or technology commonly used for exchanging information—such as scanners, tablets, projectors, printing plates, and even mirrors—but that also have the potential to distort or disrupt transmission. More recently Jablonowski has been interested in the role of the user or receiver of the information; his work finds its roots in El Lissitzky’s pioneering artistic investigations of systems of communication in the Soviet Union.
