David Kracov
American, b. 1968
Bursting with jewellike flowers, hearts, and butterflies, Pop artist David Kracov’s steel-wall sculptures have left an unmistakable impression on the art world. A former Disney animator and special effects artist, Kracov first gained attention with his sculptures of characters from children’s films he worked on, which include classics The Lion King, Aladdin, and The Swan Princess. He is now the exclusive licensed sculptor of characters from Looney Tunes, Peanuts, and Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride, all of which he creates from polymer clay. Kracov’s later works include his signature metal sculptures, meticulously hand cut from single sheets of steel and painted in vibrant colors. As a tribute to Pavel Friedmann’s 1942 poem “The Butterfly,” the artist includes at least one butterfly in each of his works. Kracov has exhibited in galleries across the globe, and his works are in the collections of celebrities including Steven Spielberg and Matt Damon.
