Eddie Hara
Eddie Hara’s exuberantly colorful layered paintings are inspired by children’s art, street art, comics, and musical subcultures. Featuring imaginary creatures, from nautical monsters to robots, Hara’s works often comment on social issues. Following his first trip to Europe in 1984, Hara became interested in the neo-primitive works of postmodern movements such as Dada and Fluxus. He graduated from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts in 1989 and studied at the ArtEZ AKI Academy of Art and Design in the Netherlands, where his classmates included Heri Dono and Nindityo Adipurnomo. Hara has shown in major institutions and biennials, including the 1986 Havana Biennial and the 1994 Triennale India. His works are collected by the Singapore Art Museum and the Museum der Kulturen Basel.
