Biography

Eiffel Chong produces photographic series about the history and mythology of his surroundings. One of his most famous bodies of work, titled “A Matter of Life and Death” (2009-), is an ongoing series of images of urban Malaysia, or what the artist calls “a collection of different short stories based on the same theme.” In another series titled “A Fragile Thing Called Man” (2012), Chong uses a tilt shift technique with a Hasselblad camera to capture aerial landscapes such that they look like miniature models of their actual locations. In these and other works, mortality and human weaknesses are recurring themes, though people are rarely present in his photographs.
