Eléonore Delisse

In her designs, Eléonore Delisse takes a principled approach to materials and geometric forms, but orients her attention beyond function and aesthetics toward psychological states. The designer is best known for the Day and Night Light, which consists of a marble block supporting a wooden fixture with brass knobs acting as axels for a rotating glass plate. The lamp rotates to produce a range of soft colors over the course of the day; Delisse designed it as an alternative to the existing range of therapy lamps used to ameliorate the effects of seasonal affective disorder (SAD). “All the existing solutions to SAD focus on the intensity of light,” Delisse has said. “I was interested to look at this from another perspective. Not only by being only exposed to certain lux levels but by having a coloured rhythm that influences your brain behaviour.”
