Known throughout his career primarily as a musician, Elijah Blue began working as a visual artist in the late 2000s, with a well-received exhibition centered around what he calls the current “Celebrity Apocalypse,” a topic he is well-versed in as the son of Cher and her second husband Gregg Allman. Working primarily with acrylic paint and printmaking techniques, Blue is concerned with examining the interdependence between celebrity and commerce, often utilizing logos and other corporate iconography. While much of Blue’s work looks to examine this relationship, he is more broadly interested in unpacking complex social and economic systems.
